Privacy Policy

Ancora Translate is a translation app for Android and iOS. This Privacy Policy explains what the app does with your information. It describes the app as it is built today.

1. Who we are

Ancora Translate is developed and published by the team behind Ancora. If you have any question about this policy or about your information, contact us at [email protected].

2. There is no account

Ancora Translate has no sign-up, no login and no user profile. We do not ask for your name, your email address, your phone number or your date of birth, and there is no Ancora account behind the app.

3. Translation on your device

Standard translation in Ancora Translate runs on your device using Google ML Kit's on-device translation.

  • The text you enter, the language you translate from and the language you translate to are processed on your device by the ML Kit model.
  • ML Kit downloads the language pack for a language pair the first time you use that pair. The download needs an internet connection. Once a pair has been downloaded, translating with that pair does not need the internet.
  • We do not receive the text you translate, the translations you produce, or the language pairs you use.

4. Voice input

Voice input is optional and runs only while you are using it. When you tap the microphone, the app asks your device's speech recognition service to turn your speech into text. Your device, and the provider of that speech service, determine how the audio is handled: depending on your device and platform, speech recognition may process the audio on the device or on the provider's servers. Ancora Translate receives only the recognised text, which is then translated like text you typed. Ancora Translate does not record or store the audio.

5. Camera and photos

Camera-to-text is optional and runs only when you ask for it. A photo you take, or choose from your gallery, is read on your device using Google ML Kit's on-device text recognition. The photo is a temporary file that the app deletes as soon as the text has been recognised. Photos are not uploaded to us, the app does not save them to your gallery, and they are never added to your translation history.

6. Read aloud

Read aloud uses your device's text-to-speech engine. The translation is handed to the speech engine on your device so that it can be spoken. Ancora Translate does not record or store the spoken audio.

7. Translation history kept on your device

Ancora Translate keeps a translation history so that you can find a translation again. It is stored in the app's own database on your device and contains the source text, the translation, the language pair, the date and time, how the text was entered (typed, voice or camera) and whether you marked the entry as a favourite.

This history never leaves your device. It is not synchronised to us and we do not back it up. You can delete single entries, delete a period of entries, or clear the whole history in the app, and uninstalling the app removes everything it stored.

8. AI translation (Pro)

AI translation is an optional Pro feature that produces a translation with a large AI model running in the cloud. It runs only when you use it.

  • When you use AI translation, the app sends the text you submitted, the source and target language, an anonymous installation identifier (a random identifier the app creates for this installation), the app version and your platform (Android or iOS) over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our Cloudflare Worker, which asks Cloudflare Workers AI to produce the translation.
  • The text is sent to produce the translation you asked for and to return it to the app. We do not use it for advertising and we do not build an advertising profile from it.
  • A single AI translation request is limited to 5,000 characters, and requests are rate limited.
  • AI translation needs an internet connection and an active Pro entitlement.
  • Please do not submit information that you would not want a third-party AI service to process, such as passwords or documents you are not entitled to share.

9. Subscriptions and promotional codes

Pro is sold as a subscription through the store you installed the app from (Google Play or the Apple App Store). Payments are handled by the store; we never see your payment card or your full billing details.

Subscription state is managed with RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives the anonymous installation identifier as the app user identifier together with the receipt information the store provides, so that the app can tell whether Pro is active and which features to unlock.

If you redeem a promotional code, the app sends the code and the anonymous installation identifier to our Cloudflare Worker. The Worker validates the code, records the grant so that the same installation cannot redeem it twice, and reports when the granted Pro access ends.

10. Advertising

The free tier of Ancora Translate shows a banner advertisement supplied by Google AdMob at the bottom of the translator screen. Google may collect and use information to provide and measure advertising under Google's own privacy policy. When Pro is active the banner is not shown.

11. What the app does not do

  • No account and no user profile.
  • No copy of your translation history on our servers.
  • No analytics and no crash-reporting service is included in the app.
  • We do not sell your information, and we do not share your translations with advertisers.

12. Permissions the app asks for

  • Internet — language pack downloads, AI translation, promotional codes, subscription checks and advertising.
  • Microphone — only for voice input, and only while you are using it.
  • Camera — only to scan text with the camera.
  • Photos (iOS) — only to let you choose a picture to scan.

You can refuse any of these permissions. The features that need them stop working and the rest of the app keeps working.

13. How long information is kept

  • Translation history and app settings stay on your device until you delete them, clear the app's data or uninstall the app.
  • An AI translation request is used to produce and return the translation you asked for.
  • The anonymous installation identifier and the promotional grant linked to it are kept by our Worker for as long as they are needed to recognise your entitlement and to stop a promotional code being redeemed twice by the same installation.

14. Children

Ancora Translate is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. There is no account and no data that identifies a child, and translation history stays on the device and can be deleted at any time.

15. Third-party services

Ancora Translate uses services from these providers, each of which applies its own terms and privacy policy to its part of the service:

  • Google — ML Kit on-device translation and text recognition; the device speech recognition and text-to-speech services on Android; AdMob advertising; Google Play billing. See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Apple — the speech recognition and text-to-speech services on iOS, and App Store billing. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
  • RevenueCat — subscription and entitlement management. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app changes. The effective date at the top of this page will change when we do, and the current version will always be published here.
